The Monterrey Metal Fest (MMF) began their history in November 2004, with the intention of starting a large scale heavy metal concert, positioning themselves as the first festival of this musical genre in Mexico. The debut edition gathered many of the most important signature bands of the genre to date such as Twisted Sister, DIO, Quiet Riot, Dokken, Hatebreed, Shaman and Cage.

After the excellent response from the public and the impact that led to the creation of the event, the 2nd edition of the MMF took place in 2005. Maintaining their position as a top level event due to the line-up, the festival featured legendary artists such as Motörhead, Danzig, W.A.S.P, Hammerfall. Metal Church and Jag Panzer; as well as bands who were having recent success and of high caliber like Mägo de Öz and Into Eternity.

Continuing the tradition of lauching a bombardment of metal each year, the 3rd edition of the festival was held in 2006. Taking a riskier approach, they decide to surprise their audience with a selection of interesting bands within the more underground movement of the style such as Cathedral, Obituary, Deicide and Sadus; in addition to including big names such as Blind Guardian, U.D.O. and Edguy.

It wasnt until 2009 after a small pause, that the colossal event of extreme music lauched their 4th edition. Exclusive to only 3,000 fans, the festival featured an explosive line-up of bands such as Children Of Bodom, Doro, Uli Jon Roth, Sonata Arctica, Samael, Atheist, Whiplash, Amorphis and other heavy talents. This assured that there would always be an essential balance  of musical styles specific to each band.

The impact of this festival on an international scale was of such importance, that many foreign media outlets dedicated space in their portals to share information about the event. Also, oficial dvds with permitted live recordings from the bands were authorized and released which included performances from the first three festivals. These dvds are still being traded and appreciated by all those followers and collectors of the genre.

Now, after 13 years since the first edition of the festival, the historic Monterrey Metal Fest returns in 2022 with its 5th edition that honors its extensive and important trajectory. Gathering as always very important giant bands in the evolution and history of metal as represented by Judas Priest, Pantera, Mercyful Fate, Behemoth and Stryper, next to local talented band Avatar Kali-Yuga.
